Sierra Storm Brings Over Six Feet of Snow to Boreal

DONNER SUMMIT, Calif. (Jan. 6, 2008)- The first significant snowfall to hit the Northern Sierra in 2008 has bestowed over six feet of snowfall on Donner Summit and Boreal as of 12 p.m. today, with another foot of snow expected to fall before Monday morning. Donner Summit was hit especially hard with power outages lasting from Friday, January 4th through Sunday afternoon at Boreal.

“It’s amazing to see the mountain transformation, going from a base of two to three feet of snow, to a base now exceeding over six feet,” said Jon Slaughter, marketing manager for Boreal Mountain Resort. “Holiday skiers and riders were in abundance through Thursday when the storm hit, then had to wait out the storm as whiteout conditions existed along with road closures” he added.

There is only one mountain at Tahoe that will have untracked powder come Monday morning, and that is Boreal. After suspending lift operations from Friday through Sunday due to loss of power, the depths of powder are limitless come Monday morning.
