Ski Area Environmental Grades Announced
Boreal Mountain Resort Receives Top Marks for Environmental Stewardship

Donner Summit, CA, (November 23, 2008) – The Ski Area Citizens’ Coalition released the yearly Ski Area Environmental Scorecard for 2008-2009, placing Boreal Mountain Resort among top of the class. Boreal along with other Powdr Corp resorts, Park City Mountain Resort and Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort, received an “A” for efforts to reduce the environmental footprint left by ski resort operations.

The Ski Area Citizen’s Coalition, based in Colorado, “works to ensure that ski area management decisions, either by the Forest Service, the ski companies, or local governments, are responsive to the needs of real environmental protection, local communities, and the skiing public.” On a yearly basis, the Coalition releases their scorecards, grading ski resorts nationwide on the environmental impact from operations. The scores are based on strict criteria including: preserving land, recycling, renewable energy usage and more. A full description of the methodology can be found at skiareacitizens.com.

“Boreal is honored to receive recognition for the outstanding work our company is doing,” said Jody Churich, General Manager for Boreal Mountain Resort. “Several projects were undertaken this summer to decrease the environmental impact caused by operations.” Among those projects was an overhaul of the snowmaking system, converting to electric fan guns and upgrading the main lodge to energy efficient lighting. Each season 1% of all revenues from Boreal Mountain Resort are set aside for environmental projects.
